Mirador del Rio

Mirador del RioMirador del Río is Lanzarote’s most famous viewpoint providing breathtaking views over the northern coastline.

Outside the entrance to Mirador del Rio stands one of many abstract Cesar Manriquescupltures. As you walk past the sculpture you approach, on what first glance, looks like a stonewall built into the hillside. The entrance to Mirador is nothing more than a hole in the wall.

Manriques initial concept was to build a restaurant on the cliff top. Inside a white walled corridor a stylish bar-restaurant (nearly always busy!) meets you with a panoramic glass view out over the cliff side. As you walk outside you are greeted with, along with a usual slight breeze, an amazing view over the neighbouring island of La Graciosa. On a clear day the view is fantastic (see the main image above).

Below the viewpoint you can still see the abandoned saltpans of the Salinas del Río with their subtle pink water.

Mirador del Rio is located at the very far north of Lanzarote. To visit the attraction you will need to hire a car or book on an organised coach trip.
