The Green Caves can be found in the North of the Island, just across the road from Jameos del Aqua. It is thought that the Green Caves were formed between 3000-4500 years ago by lava flow from a volcanic eruption.
Now a visitor attraction the history of the caves is very different. During the 17th Century it is recorded that the caves were used to hide people from Pirates and Slave hunters.
Although the caves stretch for around 7km, only 2km are open to the public.
The guided tour will take you through two levels of dark passageways that show evidence of volcanic flow through cooled rock formations. The caves also host an auditorium that has been used for live concerts. The formations of the rock provide the perfect environment for such events.
Towards the end of the tour visitors are given a special treat - want to find out more? Visit the Green Caves on your next Holiday in Lanzarote.
