Lanzarote really does offer something for the whole family. When you have had enough of lying on the beach and want something 'a little different' to occupy your day why not take a trip to the Aquarium, located just off Avda. Las Acacias in Costa Teguise.
The Lanzarote Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the Canary Islands with 33 aquariums and over a million litres of water in which hundreds of marine species can be observed and enjoyed.
So what will you find in the Aquarium that is different to any other? It is home to a large biological collection of marine life and native fish from the Canary Islands, such as the triggerfish, "golden fishes" and "fulas", and beautiful tropical fishes of different colours and forms, such as clown fishes, poisonous fire dragons, globe fishes, funny lobsters and cleaning crabs. Want more? There are also warm water sharks, swimming gently inside the main water tank - still not enough - try diving with them!
The aquarium also has three 'touching-pools' where both children and adults can experience animals like, starfish, sea urchins, coastal-zone fish, sea cucumbers and small crabs, whilst picking up a bit of knowledge along the way!
One of the aims of the Lanzarote Aquarium is to increase the environmental awareness of the coast of Lanzarote. With this in mind they have created a 'trash aquarium' where all the collected rubbish from the Lanzarote coastline has been removed and transferred to this amazing and well thought out feature. The purpose of this is feature is to sensitize the visitor of the importance of not throwing waste into the sea, making them see the ecological catastrophe that could occur.
