Lanzarote Airport
I remember my first trip to Lanzarote and the airport that greeted us wasn't what we had expected at all! Just a small single building, with a distinct lack of facilities was all that the island had to welcome its holiday makers.
However, 10 years on the airport has been redeveloped to cope with the demand that tourism has put on it.
There are now two terminals at Lanzarote airport. Terminal one has been developed specifically for tourism and services International flights. The building is split into two floors, with arrivals on the bottom floor and departures on the first floor. On arrivals, once through passport control. holiday makers are greeted with their luggage carousels and a large selection of car hire companies and shuttle services to get them to their resorts.
On departure tourists now have a selection of retail and food outlets and bars to make their waiting time a little more pleasurable. There is a terrace area where passengers can watch flights arrive and depart whilst they wait. The facilities in Terminal One are both clean and modern.
The airport itself its located right next to the sea and starts by the beach at Matagorda. This is a popular spot for holiday makers who enjoy watching the aircraft take off from, and arrive at the airport.
Access to and from the airport is via the main LZ2 road that runs from Arrecife through to Yaiza. The airport is located between the islands capital, Arrecife and the popular tourist resort of Puerto del Carmen.
Lanzarote Airport Car Hire
On arrival, there is a large selection of Car Hire Companies located in the baggage hall. Hire Cars are kept in the rotunda opposite the terminal building.
When you drop your car back off at the end of the holiday you will need to follow signs for arrivals to return the car to the same building. For more information you can visit our Car Hire page.
