Lanzarote is a favourite holiday destination for so many people due to the warm climate throughout the year. There are plenty of holiday options available, so no matter if you are looking for a relaxing break in the sun by the pool, a holiday of discovery of the islands natural beauty, an action packed water sports break or you just want to sample some of the islands food and culture there will be something to suit you.
There are many different types of accommodation on Lanzarote, from one bedroom apartments to holiday villas that sleep up to 10 people to luxury hotels. Depending on your travel agent you can often build your own Lanzarote holiday to get the best flights, airport transfer and hotel deals.
If you are not sure where to stay when booking your holiday in Lanzarote you can check out our guide on place on the island. Although people have different tastes and holiday for different reasons we would highly recommend Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise for a relaxing break if you want to get away from it all. For a more action packed holiday, including a vibrant nightlife you might want to consider staying in Puerto del Carmen, or the islands capital of Arrecife.
Although the island is small there are plenty of natural attractions to visit, including the Timanfaya National Park. The park was created by a number of volcanic explosions on the island during the 18th Century when over 100 volcanos were said to have risen on the west of the island. On the east of the island you can (and should) visit the Caeva do los Verdes and Jameos del Agua which are attractions based in volcanic tunnels where the lava once flowed out to sea.
Whilst taking about things to do on the island we find it hard not to mention the Cesar Manrique foundation. Not far from Costa Teguise lies his once home. Manrique was instrumental in helping the island develop into what we enjoy so much today - the perfect demonstration of fusing man and nature together. Manriques artistic touches can be found all over the island at attractions such as Mirador del Rio that looks out over the cliffs of the north to the island of Graciosa.
If you intend to travel around the island we recommend that you book a hire car. You can usually get these cheaper if you book in advance before your visit. You will also find a number of organised excursions that take place on a regular basis if you prefer not to drive yourself.
