Famara, on the Northern coast of Lanzarote, is a popular surfing village. This quirky little town is hidden away from the touristic areas of the island, and boasts long sandy white beaches set against dramatic cliff edges. Thanks to it's large swells and strong winds, world surfing championship competitions often frequent these shores, and locals can usually be seen practising their skills on the waves.
The main town is home to a selection of seafood restaurants, serving paella throughout the day. The streets are lined with relaxed surfer bars, alongside yoga and meditation classes, surf board rental shops, and a large supermarket in the centre of town.
Perhaps the most beautiful area of Famara is hidden away along the cliff edges just outside of town. Just past the modern residential area of town is a dirt track, which leads along the edges of the cliffs down to the stunning white sands at the bottom.
