Teguise, the ancient Capital of Lanzarote, is home to one of the largest markets in the whole of the Canary Islands. This open-air event takes up almost every cobbled and winding street, and is the most established market-place in Lanzarote.
Every Sunday morning this quirky town comes alive with the hustle and bustle of tourists and locals alike flocking to the town to buy and sell crafts, local goods, handbags, clothes, and aloe vera products. You can browse and bargain for gifts like artwork, watches, jewellery and more for your loved ones, whilst enjoying the sights and smells of delicious foods all around.
There are over 300 stalls, stretching over the entire town, and on the streets of this vibrant market, you'll find authentic and traditional street performers, musicians, and painters. The shops all open up their doors, too, taking advantage of the tourist buses flocking to the town. There are health food shops selling local fruit and veg, along with quirky boutiques selling clothing, incense and decor gifts.
Throughout the town are a number of bars and restaurants, serving seafood, paella, tapas, and vegan cuisine. There is a large marquee set up each week, serving traditional food from around the world including your home from home favourites. You can also admire the architecture of the beautiful Teguise buildings. There is a plaza in the centre, which is home to the local church - Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, constructed in the 16h Century.
Another example of fantastic architecture in the area is Casa Museo Del Timple - the music museum. This beautiful museum is set in an old cottage within the grounds of a rustic old fashioned country house.
Teguise market is most easily accessed by car, however there are also coaches travelling from each resort every week. You can book these coacheds by clicking the link below.
