El Golfo

The small village of El Golfo sits by a natural spectacle on the west coast of Lanzarote. Separated from the sea by by ash coloured sand sits an emerald green pool, set as if it was once inside a volcanic crater.

El GolfoFor people who enjoy a fish menu, El Golfo is perfect as it offers so much choice. As added entertainment you might also see your meals being prepared on the rocks out by the restaurants as they are so close so the sea!

The west cost of Lanzarote can become quite wild at times, and this can make El Golfo an exciting place to sit and eat your lunch whilst looking out to sea - indeed at one time some of the restaurants and buildings in El Golfo were under the threat of being demolished as a law was considered prohibiting buildings within a certain distance of the coast line. Thankfully the law was never introduced and the buildings remain.

Just south of El Golfo you can also find Los Hervideros. This is an area of sheer cliff faces inheriting its name from the sea water that bubbles on reaching the crevices in the coastline. This is known as the place where the four elements of life (fire, water, air and land) come together and symbolise Lanzarote as an island of creation and life.
