Haria

Haria, otherwise known as 'the village of 1000 palm trees', is the capital of the municipality. Based in the north of Lanzarote it is characterised by stunning panoramic views and amazing wildlife.

Haria, Lanzarote As with many places on the island, the style of Cesar Manrique is very evident in Haria. Indeed he moved to Haria before he sadly passed away. Haria is known to have a very friendly community. The local people are very friendly and accommodating towards other locals and tourists alike.

The north of Lanzarote is alot greener than the rest of the island mainly due to the altitude. The villa of Haira sits between the islands highest mountain range, of which the highest moutain stands at 670 metres above sea leve. This helps to attract cloud and overnight condensation which naturally helps plant life to grow and flurish. However, there is another reason for the Palm trees that grow in the village.

During the 17th and 18th centuries it was tradition for the locals of Haria to plant palm trees to celebrate the birth of a new child. One for a baby girl and two for a boy.

We always enjoy the drive down to Haira, as the road twists down the side of the mountain with a beautiful view over the village with the coast in the background. It's simply stunning.

Not far from Haria are the three attractions of El Mirador del Rio, La Cueva de los Verdes and Los Jameos del Agua. All of which are definitely worth a visit if you haven't visited before.
