Famara

Famara

Home to International surfing competitions, the small fishing village of Famara, in the North of Lanzarote, is much more than just a just a surfers paradise.

Due to its position Famara takes the brunt of the harsh Atlantic winds. The large cliffs at Famara tower straight out of the sea and form the highest point of the Island. They are really a sight to be seen.

Famara Surf ShopFamara itself is just a small village, and hosts a number of small seafood restaurants, a few surfing shops and a supermarket. Considering the popularity of Famara with the surfing community the village has managed to maintain its laid back way of life and has escaped the development that has taken place on the other resorts on the Island, such as Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise.

The streets of Famara can be found covered in sand, and the small harbour reminds locals and visitors of the time it was once a small fishing village. Now the harbour is mainly used by locals to launch their private leisure boats.

Famara Cliffs, LanzaroteFamara has one of the longest stretches of beach on the island. The strong winds and currents mean that it isn't ideal for swimming or bathing, but its a great haven for those keen on extreme sports such as windsurfing or kite buggying.

Famara is definately not everyones cup of tea, but for those seeking a thrill, amazing scenery or just looking for a place that has remembered its roots then it's worth a visit.

Due to its remote location at the north point of the island you will need to hire a car to get to Famara..
