Located in the south of the island, around 33km from Arrecife airport, Playa Blanca started life as a small fishing village. As Lanzarote became more popular with the tourists it has grown into a thriving and popular holiday destination.
The 'Marina Rubicon'
plays host to a number of classy bars and restaurants and the sea front strip also offers a large range of shops, bars and restaurants including Indian, Chinese, Steak houses and Italian food.
At night the sea front comes alive, with a nightly firework display from one of the restaurants, and yet during the day
the white, sandy beaches provide the perfect place to relax.
From the Dorada Beach you can take a pedelo or ride a banana boat, and just around the corner you can take the Fred Olson ferry for a day trip to Fuertoventura.
For those that like a walk, or a bike ride, the sea front path provides a challenge from the lighthouse to Papogaya beach.
There is a Golf Course planned for construction and the
new Sport Marina Rubicon has certainly made Playa Blanca a more upmarket resort.
Unfortunately around the edge of the town, there is currently a number of unfinished developments that appear to have suffered the recent worldwide recession.
However, Playa Blanca seems to have learnt from the mistakes made by some of the other towns on the island through investment in the towns infrastructure as the town has expanded.
Playa Blanca is the ideal Lanzarote holiday destination for couples, however if you are looking for something a little bit more relaxing we recommend that you avoid the main summer months.
